Dennis Stansfield Salt Lake City ATA Martial Arts

Hi, I’m Dennis Stansfield.

I remember when I was a child, feeling uncertainty about beginning martial arts. I wondered if I had what it took to succeed and I wasn’t the most athletic or confident child - quite the opposite. Little did I know that beginning my martial arts journey would be one of the most profound experiences of my life!

When I opened my school in 2002, I made a commitment to serving and empowering the community of Salt Lake City by teaching children and adults the confidence, leadership, and fitness skills that can only be achieved through martial arts.

We Share & teach The Same Values You Teach At Home.

The ATA Martial Arts programs have a strong focus on personal development. The foundations of our morals, values, and core character traits are formed in our early years. For this reason, the ATA Martial Arts program is an essential way to enhance the growth and personal development of young students of all ages.

One of the things that set Salt Lake City ATA Martial Arts apart from other martial arts studios is the instructor to student ratio seen in every class. There is often one instructor for every 5 or 6 students. Each student receives a generous amount of individual instruction and there is an emphasis on mastering the basics before more advanced techniques are introduced. You can tell how much students progress here just by observing the different level classes.

Songahm Taekwondo is the style of martial arts practiced by ATA Martial Arts students.
The journey from White Belt to Black Belt (10 belts total) is one of incremental learning and skill development that students of any age any fitness level can embark on. Our children and adult programs boast dozens of World Champ titles, Top 10 in the world honors, District Champ titles, and hundreds of State Champ titles. This is a school that produces champions and has numerous titles and honors to prove it.

Students enjoy a mix of hard work, fun and games, exercise, and technique training that is enjoyed by all. Students and parents of students often remark how much of a family this experience has come to feel. Owner and high rank, Dennis Stansfield, has watched entire families grow together from white to black belt and beyond and the closeness felt by many of these friends and families is incredibly valuable to them. "It has meant the world to me to watch what the American Taekwondo Association (ATA) has brought to our students' lives, " says Stansfield

One of the most fun parts of martial arts training is the ability to test your skills by competing in a tournament. Tournaments are not only fun for competitors, but they also become a great social experience for parents as well! There are currently 130,000 ATA Martial Arts members worldwide. ATA Martial Arts students compete in local tournaments against other ATA schools, advancing from District levels, to State levels, to a yearly Spring National competition in Las Vegas, NV. The competition winners gather at the ATA World Expo Tournament in Little Rock, AR in the summer, competing against finalists from all over the planet in one of largest martial arts competitions in the world.
